For procedures that are quick and minor, but require your pet to remain perfectly still, we will use an injectable anesthetic or heavy sedation.
This involves an intramuscular or intravenous injection of a heavy sedative along with an opioid-like drug for heavy sedation. Your pet is in a sleep like state without the addition any gas anesthetic. They are monitored continuously by a Registered Veterinary Technologist.
The procedure required is performed, and then a reversal agent is given under the skin. The pet is then able to walk out of the clinic in about 2 hours.
Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about your pet receiving heavy sedation or about the procedure for which your pet is scheduled
